WEBSPHERE PORTAL
Enabling admin when running a portal server from WSAD
By David Gewirtz

As part of your development process, you'll probably want to test custom themes and skins in Portal Toolkit. However, if you're like most folks, you might find yourself stuck, unable to access the administration interface when you run the portal server from WSAD (WebSphere Studio Application Developer).

If you're running version 5.0 and above, we've got a simple checkbox that'll make your life easier. This might be possible in earlier versions, but frankly, we haven't tested it.

The key is you have to have a complete portal installed either on the same machine as WSAD or run a remote portal and WSAD. If you've done the lightweight install of the portal using the Portal Toolkit, you've probably run into this snag.

Fortunately, there's a hidden checkbox that should get you going. In the server configuration, under the Portal tab, there's a checkbox that will enable you to enable this feature.
