Industry professionals have plans for WebSphere (continued)
According to J|rgen Wege, CEO and founder of GROUP Technologies (at http://www.group-software.com), "GROUP Technologies iQ. Suite of email security, organization, and management products is fully Web-enabled and supports WebSphere." Wege says the company will continue to develop products in support of WebSphere.
Whale Communications (at http://www.whale-com.com) also supports WebSphere applications with their remote access solutions and will continue to do so as future versions emerge, according to Joseph Steinberg, Director of Technical Services.
Sherri Taylor of Computer Training & Consulting (at http://www.ctcfl.com) says that they are moving "fast and furiously toward this development platform and J2EE in general," as they are getting a lot of customer interest in WebSphere.
Advanced Systems Group (at http://www.AdvancedSystems.com) is an IBM Premier Business Partner. As such, they offer the entire WebSphere family of products. According to Advanced Systems Group's Cassandra Hernandez, "Websphere Portal Server offers immediate intra or extranet frameworks with hooks into everything, making it a 'must have' for any organization. From there, whether the customer is looking at Commerce Suite, Application Server, or any other WebSphere solution, Domino's seamless integration brings collaboration to it's most advanced level yet. No matter who you are WebSphere Portal is something everybody can use!"
ESNA Ltd. (at http://www.esna.co.uk) is migrating their Domino solutions to WebSphere, making WebSphere hosting more accessible, according to Sales Manager Naomi Sargeant. "We see that WebSphere is still battling with companies that require a technical solution like WebSphere but want a technology that is independent of heavy licensing costs. We believe that our solutions have done well because the licensing is incorporated into the cost. Therefore this does not become an objection to purchasing. Many of our clients are very adverse to license costs, and being tied into a technology/platform that is restricted by license models becomes a negative."
Finally, we get the opinion of DominoPower Technical Editor Ron Herardian, whose recent series of articles have taken an in depth look at the Domino versus WebSphere debate. Ron is also CEO and Chief Technical Consultant at Global System Services (GSS), at http://www.gssnet.com. Says Ron, "We are looking at WebSphere for two main reasons. One, to move the bulk of our current Domino Web development to a pure Java environment, and two, to leverage features of WebSphere to build new or enhanced portal solutions for our customers."
